🥁 African Drumming is Back – Join Us at Poplar Union!
We’re excited to announce that Drums Around the World: Africa Drumming is returning for a second year at Poplar Union Café.
Led by the brilliant SuperNovae, these inclusive sessions explore the vibrant rhythms of West African drumming, including traditional rhythms played on Djembe and Dundun. The programme is open to beginners and anyone curious about rhythm, culture, and making music together. Participants will also discover the cultural significance and community role of West African drumming. No experience is required — just a love of music and connection.
Each Saturday we run two sessions, so you can choose the one that suits you best:

A welcoming space for families and younger participants to take part together.🎧 Individual/Adult Session
🕜 1:30 PM – 3:00 PM
For young people (14+) and adults who want to take part independently and explore rhythms in a slightly more focused session.📅 Programme Dates

We’re looking for the next 8 members of our Youth Advisory Board!
The Beyond the Bias Youth Advisory Board (YAB) brings together young people aged 16–21 to shape ideas, challenge decisions and help create opportunities that actually reflect what young people need.
As a member, you'll work alongside other young people and the Beyond the Bias team to:
Shape programmes & opportunities for young people
Share your perspective on education, employability and social mobility
Develop and pitch ideas that could create real change
Help decide where opportunities and funding could go
Represent young people and bring their voices into important conversations
Build your leadership, communication & decision-making skills

Whether you’ve got a draft already and want advice on some changes, or you’re struggling with a blank page, we’ll help you refine your ideas into a brilliant piece of writing- you’ll be ready to submit your words with confidence.
The day will consist of:
how to write a strong personal statement by addressing the 3 key UCAS questions
time for you to write and update your statement
1-1 reviews with members of our team

We’re putting young people aged 13–14 on game... literally. We're hosting a FREE half-term event delivered by The Brendan Wiredu Foundation x Beyond The Bias.
The day brings together football, creativity and career insight, giving young people the opportunity to enjoy a 5-a-side tournament while exploring the wider opportunities available within the world of sport.
What’s happening on the day?
